In my role as a food stylist I combine culinary art and science to prepare food to be photographed for cookbooks, websites, newsletters, video, commercials and advertising.
As you know, a good food stylist starts out with a solid culinary education, and spends several years working as a traditional chef before working in the field. My Culinary Institute of America degree has greatly enhanced my success as a food stylist, as the job requires extensive knowledge of how food acts, both aesthetically and scientifically. And my 20+ years experience as a working chef, pastry chef and culinary professor have given me a keen eye for detail and a unique eye for the beauty found in all foods. My extensive experience has also given me the option to prepare and style both desserts and savory foods with ease.
Working as a food stylist requires me being at the top of my game. It requires someone that is detail-oriented, organized, and focused, which I am, so food styling has become an excellent way for me to combine my artistic vision with culinary skills while at the peak of my career.
Before preparing and arranging the food, though, I will typically choose the accessories for staging the shot first. Backgrounds that compliment the food that usually involve choosing things like the most cohesive and photogenic plates, tablecloths, silverware and placemats.
The food is then arranged on the plate so that it appears just prepared, fork ready, beautiful and scrumptious. I have a number of sneaky little tricks up my sleeve to easily make this possible.
I'll always do my creative best to make your shot unique and stylish. So let's have some fun!
I also offer private cooking classes and catering as well. I am highly skilled in both savory and pastry cooking so I can cater any event from start to a fabulous finish!
I hope to talk with you soon.
